Overview

D4-30 is a Low end disk array device with up to 144 HDD modules.

Description

  • FC model supports up to 8 FC(8Gbps) ports or 4 FC(8Gbps) ports + 4 iSCSI(10Gbps) ports. (*1)
  • iSCSI model supports 4 iSCSI(10Gbps) ports. (*2)
  • Having up to 144 SAS or SATA HDD modules, the maximum capacity is 252.0TB.
  • High operability with setup wizard which reduces installation time, visualized configuration and mixed use of SAS/SATA HDD.
  • High perfomance with new RAID engine and SAS Wide Link.
  • Saving energy with MAID technology.
  • High availability and high reliability with RAID-TM (Triple Mirror).

High Operability

Up to 8 FC (8Gbps) ports in just one disk array

D4-30 can have up to 18 FC ports, so that up to 8servers, up to 5servers when the path has redundancy, can be connected without FC switch. This reduces space and TCO.

Simple installation

The installation process of the D Series has been thoroughly reviewed and simplified.
The installation of the D Series can be completed by just a few steps of the setup wizard of NEC Storage Manager

Centralized management and operation by visualized Web client

Operational status of the system components such as Storages, connected servers, logical disks and physical disks can be visualized.

The type of HDD is selectable according to the purpose of the system

Selectable from high-speed/high-performance SAS disk drive and large-capacity/low-cost SATA disk drive. These 2 types of HDD can be mixed within the same disk enclosure.

SAS disk drive with high performance for main business which is most frequently accessed. SATA disk drive with low cost for backup use. SAS and SATA disk drives can be mixed within the same disk enclosure, so Disk to Disk backup in a single enclosure is available.

New RAID Engine

Performance is enhanced with new RAID engine which has high internal transfer speed. The load of the processor can be offloaded to the RAID engine.

SAS technology is leveraged

SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) has been adopted for the disk array. "Wide Link" technology of SAS can use 4 sets of 3Gbps SAS interface in parallel, so that it realizes 12Gbps transfer speed.

High availability, high reliability

RAID-TM (Triple Mirror) with more advanced high availability

RAID-Triple Mirror by high-speed RAID engine is adopted. This technology has high speed of RAID-1 and high reliability of RAID-6 at the same time. The business can continue even when double failure occurs to the HDDs of the same RAID. This technology is useful especially for Database and OLTP which require high performance and availabiltiy.

Saving energy

MAID Technology to reduce the power consumption of disk drives

The larger the scale of system becomes, the more power is consumed and it has an impact on running cost. The D Series adopts MAID (*) technology aiming at saving energy.
By dedicated software control, this system turns off the motor power of unused disk drives This lead to reduce max.30% of the power consumption, compared with the conventional models.
